Mumbai: In a stunning development, Pahlaj Nihalani was on Friday expelled as the chairperson of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
Renowned song-writer and poet Prasoon Joshi has been appointed as the Nihlani’s successor.
There have been reports that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had already informed Nihalani that he might be replaced in near future.
Nihalani’s stubborn attitude has been the reason behind several controversies over the past two years since his appointment as the chief of the 23-member board in January, 2015.
He has been under radar of the Bollywood filmmakers for his prudish views and making his political affiliation public by describing PM Modi as his ‘action hero’.
According to the media reports, Nihalani was recommended for the post of CBFC chief by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), which also had a role in the controversial election of FTII chairman Gajendra Chauhan.
