Surat: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Armoured Systems Complex of Larsen and Toubro in Gujarat, here on Saturday.
K9 Vajra self-propelled Howitzer guns will be manufactured in Armoured Systems Complex of Larsen and Toubro, which is the first private facility in India.
In 2017, Larsen and Toubro (L&T) won the Rs 4,500-crore contract from the Ministry of Defence under the Centre’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, where L&T was asked to supply 100 units of K9 Vajra-T 155 mm/52 calibre tracked self-propelled gun systems to the Indian Army.
Armoured Systems Complex was set up at Hazira, 30km away from Surat, to manufacture and integrate advanced armoured platforms.
It is to be mentioned that the K-9 Vajra contract was initiated by Modi government in 2014 after it came to power and took a two years time to complete.
The K- 9 Vajra T has a range of 38 kilometers and is supplied by L&T in partnership with a Korean company.
