Indian-origin priest stabbed with a knife in Melbourne

Melbourne (Australia): An Indian-origin priest was stabbed with a knife in front of 100 parishioners while he was leading Italian mass at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Melbourne city of Australia.

The incident took place on Sunday, when the accused stabbed in the neck of 48-year-old, Reverend Tomy Kalathoor Mathew.

Kalathoor was immediately taken to the Northern Hospital where the doctors said that he is out of danger.

The church officials said, “The man allegedly yelled ‘you are Indian, a Hindu or Muslim, you cannot say mass… I will kill you.”

The parishioners tried to stop the accused but he fled away from the scene.

The police said, “The accused has been arrested and we are interrogating him. The probe regarding the matter is on.”

It may be mentioned that Mathew has been the parish priest of St Matthew’s since late 2014.
