Gunman opens fire at Hollywood airport in Florida, five killed

Tallahassee (Florida): At least five people were killed and more than eight others were injured when a gunman opened fire, on Saturday, at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood airport in Broward County (Florida). The chaos occurred in the area and the suspect was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The incident took place in the baggage claim area of Terminal 2 when the passengers were collecting their luggage and suddenly interrupted by the alleged gunman.

The suspect was thought to be an Iraq veteran and was identified as 26-year-old Esteban Santiago.

He was interrogated by the FBI over the shooting that shut down the international airport and gateway to the Caribbean.

 According to the police:

  • He was carrying an army ID with him.
  • The motive behind the attack was not immediately known.
  • The incident occurred at 0100 hours on Saturday.
  • No law enforcement fired any shot.

The reason behind the attack was yet not known and more details regarding the incident are awaited.
