New Delhi: Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday became the first politician to meet former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee who is admitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for ‘routine check-up’.
BJP chief Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi could reach the hospital only after Rahul had met with the veteran BJP leader.
Shah reached the hospital accompanied with union minister JP Nadda, while PM Modi visited AIIMS at around 8 pm and stayed there for about 45 minutes.
Apart from PM Modi, Amit Shah and JP Nadda, many other senior BJP leaders including Vijay Goyal and Anil Baluni were also present in the hospital.
Meanwhile senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram wished Vajpayee well, saying in a tweet, “We pray for Shri Vajpayee ji’s good health.”
According to statements from the BJP and the hospital, Vajpayee has been admitted in AIIMS for routine check-ups and investigations, as per doctors’ advice.
The AIIMS, in its statement, said that the 93-year-old leader’s condition is stable and tests are going on.
