SP-Congress alliance looks possibility after Mulayam winks first

Lucknow: The speculation about Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance has gained momentum as SP Patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav has relented to project Akhilesh Yadav as the Chief Ministerial candidate in the coming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.

The possible meeting between Akhilesh and Congress Vice President rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on Tuesday may achieve headway in this regard, the political observers feel. Akhilesh, who has always been sounded in the favour of alliance, had even gone to the extent saying the truch between two parties may help his party getting 300 seats in UP assembly of 403.

It was the Congress poll strategist Prashant Kishore (PK) to initiate the alliance talks though opposed to by the Congress leaders including UP Congress Chief Raj Babbar and in charge of UP affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad. Even Mulayam had expressed his reservation over the possibility of alliance but since he is no more at the helm of affairs in the changed scenario in the midst of internal battle of SP over claim on the party symbol Cycle between two warring factions.

The possibility of alliance was never diminished as Akhilesh had declared ‘his’ list of 325 candidates leaving rest to the speculations in this regard. Now, all eyes are focused on Akhilesh-Rahul meeting which is expected on Tuesday.
