Kolkata: Indian team skipper Virat Kohli slammed his 50th international hundred to help the hosts set 231-run target for Sri Lanka to win the opening Test on the fifth and final day at the Eden Gardens ground here on Monday.

Kohli notched up his 18th Test hundred in style by hitting Suranga Lakmal for a six. He scored 104 runs off 119 balls with 12 fours and 2 sixes.

It is worth mentioning that Kohli has 32 hundreds in One-Day International Cricket.

After completing his hundred, the captain immediately declared the hosts’ second inning at 352/8.

Tailender Mohammed Shami was giving him company at the other end on 12. For Sri Lanka, Lakmal (3/93) was the pick of the bowlers.

Coming in to chase down a healthy target in about 45 overs (remaining to be bowled in the match), Sri Lanka lost two early wickets as both the openers Sadeera Samarawickrama (0 off 6) and Dimuth Karunaratne (1 off 6) were sent back in first two overs by Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami, respectively.

Currently, Sri Lanka is under immense pressure at 2/2in 4 overs, and need 229 runs to win with 8 wickets in hand.
