Lucknow: Surrendering before the strike of Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) employees, the Yogi government on Thursday took a u-turn on its previous order of privatising the department.
The employees from all the districts of the state were on strike since past 19 days and eventually they have succeeded in overturning the UP government’s decision.
After cancelling its previous order, the state government has also terminated the tenders issued for integrated service providers in seven districts including Raebareli, Kannauj, Etawah, Orai, Mau, Ballia and Saharanpur.
These tenders were issued in February 2018 and the UPPCL departments in each district were to be handed over to private firms in March.
The decision to overturn the previous order was taken after a written agreement was signed by Principal Secretary (Energy) Alok Kumar in presence of Electrical staff joint struggle committee representative and Energy minister Shrikant Sharma.
Subsequently, the state-wide strike was called off by the UPPCL workers. The agreement also states that necessary steps will be taken to improve the condition of the department and no disciplinary action will be taken again any employee for participating in the strike.
