Lucknow: The deadlock  in the Samawadi Party continues as no headway was made at the  meeting between Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and  his Samajwadi Party father president Mulayam Singh Yadav here on Tuesday. Much significance was  attached to this meeting as it had taken place  after the latter’s statement  in Delhi the previous day that the  former will  be reelected as chief minister  if the party is voted to power which is a climb down from his earlier stand.

The party chief  had maintained before this that the  leader of the legislature party will be decided after  the election by  the  newly elected members of  state assembly. He had also maintained that  a chef ministerial candidate would

not  be announced before the election. It amounted to saying that it is not yet certain whether Akhilesh will become chief minister again if the party is voted to power.

In the light of the change in stand by him it was hoped that some new developments would take place after the meeting between the two. But, according to party insiders,  the meeting ended  without any significant development.  Mulayam was not ready to accept his son as the new party chief even for two months till the election as proposed by him.

There is a difference between the two on another issue–  Ram Gopal Yadav. While Mulayam would like his ouster from the party, Akhiklesh would not as he has stood by him through out the crisis. Similarly, the two have different views regarding Amar Singh and Shivpal Singh Yadav, two senor leaders. Akhilesh would like action against them but his father would not.

These issues have been hanging fire for last couple of months. They have defied solution even now. Some other leaders including Uday Veer Singh, party MLC and a staunch  Aklhilesh support have also met Mulayam.

The two camps have already approached the Election Commission for retaining the cycle symbol, Both have described the other “unreal” as far as the party is concerned. The two groups have submitted documents in support of their claims. The Commission has not taken any decision so far and is likely to announce it in next three days.

Akhilesh camp had met the Commission before Mulayam who called on the officials on Tuesday/ The statement about reelection of Akhilesh was made after the meeting with officials.
