Melbourne: In a bid to reduce the risk of dreaded virus Zika spreading through mosquitoes, scientists have created a new strain of ‘super-infected’ mosquitoes.

The ‘super-infected’ species of mosquitoes can reduce the risk of dengue fever and the Zika virus spreading among humans.

  • These mosquitoes are known as Aedes aegypti.
  • These have been infected with two types of Wolbachia bacterium.
  • Wolbachia could potentially help fight these diseases.
