Lucknow: After damning 302-km long Agra-Lucknow expressway, the dream project of Akhilesh Yadav government, for about six-months and finding no fault, the Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh has given go-ahead to Indian Air Force to test land fighter and transport aircraft on this.

In a unique experiment , a mirage fighter plane of IAF had landed successfully on the Expressway about two years ago. The Expressway had been one of some projects which were on the scanner of Yogi government for corruption allegations but the elaborate probe did not find any shortcomings in Expressway which was completed in a record time of 22 months at the cost of Rs 13,200 crore followed by a nod to IAF exercise.

As a part of elaborate trials to see how many highways can be used for war-like emergencies, Indian Air Force (IAF) is gearing up to carry out a full war drill on Agra-Lucknow expressway at Bangarmau in Unnao district ,about 50 kms from the state capital, on October 24. IAF jets will touch down Agra-Lucknow expressway as part of a plan for emergencies when military air fields are not available.

More than 20 aircraft and cargo planes of IAF namely Sukhoi, Tejas, Mikoyan MiG-29, Dassault Mirage 2000, Jaguar, MiG-27ML, MIG-21, Boeing C-17 Globemaster III, Ilyushin Il-76MD and Lockheed C-130J Super Hercules are expected to take part in the drill on the Expressway, Avnish Awasthi, the CEO of UP Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) told www.newstrack.com.

”Meanwhile, the joint inspection by the IAF and UP government officials has already taken place and all the logistics are in place,” he added.

Earlier, six fighter jets of the Indian Air Force had taken part in the inaugural ceremony of Agra-Lucknow expressway on November 21 last year after a test landing of Mirage which took place in Mathura district in 2015.
